Different learners need different provisions

We know that desk based learning and study at GCSE level is not the best fit for some learners, particularly those with more complex needs. Some learners have a need to stretch legs and move frequently in order to learn. Our Oakthorpe site is designed to offer more outdoor space with opportunities for movement built into the daily curriculum. This site offers more vocational and life skills opportunities and educational progress is cross curricular. Experiential learning takes place via supervised work experience placements. We offer Entry Level English and Maths plus a bank of ASDAN qualifications.

SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) is so important in order for a young person to engage in learning. At our Oakthorpe site, we incorporate a host of well-being activities related to art, cooking, walking in nature, sport, boxing and accessing community venues in order to encourage young people to use strategies such as exercise, eating well and talking to others in order to improve their mental and physical health.
