When learners with anxiety face transitioning to a large college, it often starts promising but quickly becomes a scenario of non-attendance. Students can go from a bubble wrapped experience at a Special school or smaller AP and then face transitioning to a larger class size with more demands on attendance, coursework deadlines and navigating new friendships and a new environment. This can lead to overwhelm and refusal to engage. We offer a "gap year" designed to build confidence to transition to college at a later date. We build the transition into the placement, so that it is a gradual process and far less daunting. Sadly, a large number of NEET students are those with anxiety or Special Needs.
We offer a flexible and individualised approach to learning, based on individual ability. The could include Entry Level English and Maths, GCSE resits or a complete start again of GCSE courses. We also offer a Transition Package, working with colleges to help prepare students to attend a year later than originally intended. Students complete an ASDAN in Careers and Experiencing Work, allowing them to become familiar with the expectations of college, starting with the application through to the offer. Transitions are mapped throughout the year to enable a thorough transition to take place.
Our environment is designed for the older learner and independent study time is incorporated within the curriculum. Students can access enrichment activities such as attending the gym, going for coffee, visiting a variety of local venues and attending a supervised work experience session.
